Jerome Elmer Horsch
Jerome Elmer Horsch, age 73 of Howard Lake, died Friday, July 29, 2005 after entering into hospice care at North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale.
He was born Oct. 20, 1931 in Howard Lake, the son of Arthur and Elsie (Schmieg) Horsch.
A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Jerome was baptized Nov. 8, 1931 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz, and confirmed in his faith March 25, 1945 by the Rev. Theo. Melinat.
Jerome was united in marriage to LaVerna Knaak Sept. 3, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, by the Rev. M. A. Schulz. Their marriage was blessed with six children.
Jerome enjoyed music. He played the accordian with the Lakeside Dutchmen and the Wagoners bands. He was a member of the St. Cloud Musician’s Union, and managed his band for many years.
At St. James Lutheran Church, Jerome seved as an usher, and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League.
Jerome was employed at the creamery and Gilmer Monument Works in Howard Lake, and for 31 years, he worked as a welder at Waconia Manufacturing.
In retirement, Jerome enjoyed going camping with his motor home.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elsie Horsch; mother-in-law Dora Knaak; and son-in-law James Salden.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerna; children: Kathy (Roger) Schiroo, Randy Horsch, Roxanne Salden (special friend Wayne Schmitz), Cindy (Rick) Olson, Alan (Karen) Horsch, and Chris (Stacy) Horsch; two brothers, Orville (Carol) Horsch and Chris (Stacy) Horsch; three brothers-in-law, Otto (Judy) Knaak, Alvin (Irene) Knaak, and Elroy (Betty) Knaak; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Martin Schoenfeld and Michael Nirva officiating. Helen Brose served as the organist, and special music was provided by guitarist Red Johnson and soloist Marge Stueven. Interment followed at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Pallbearers were Randy Horsch, Alan Horsch, Chris Horsch, Joshua Salden, Dustin Salden, Nicholas Olson, and Ryan Olson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Schiroo, Jennifer Schiroo, Sarah Deckert, Leah Deckert, Matthew Horsch, and Gabryella Horsch.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake served the family.
