Leslie H. Jaekel
Leslie H. Jaekel, age 81 of Mayer, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born Sept. 28, 1923 in Watertown Twp., Carver County, the son of Walter G. and Mary A. Neske Jaekel. Leslie was baptized Oct. 14, 1923 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. William Schneider, and confirmed March 27, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church, Benton Twp., rural Cologne, by the Rev. Herman AmEnd.
Leslie farmed with his brother, Waldo, his entire lifetime. He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, and loved to visit.
He was a member of the Norwood Young America Sportsman Club.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Jaekel; sister and brother-in-law Ella and Herman Schmeckpeper, and nephews Bruce Reinke, James, and Charles Schmeckpeper.
He is survived by brothers and sister-in-law Orville and Anna Jaekel of Carson City, Nev.; Waldo Jaekel of Mayer and fiancée Eleanor Tupy of Bloomington; sisters and brothers-in-law Myra and Elmer Templin of Plato, and Marcella and James Reinke of Waconia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America with the Rev. David Winter officiating. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Dean Reinke, Brian Templin, Tony Storms, Keith Latzke, Scott Hoese, Bob Dressen, and Lyle Kuntz.
Arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
