George P. “Shorty” Karels Sr.
George P. “Shorty” Karels Sr., age 72 of Waverly, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005.
He was born March 8, 1932 to Hugo and Alma (Worm) Karels in Waconia.
George was a man who always put others before himself.
He is survived by his wife, Laura (Bokusky); sons: Roger and Karen Karels, George and Ann Karels, Tom and Tonya Karels, John and Kim Karels, Bruce and Holly Karels, Daryl and Shannon Karels, Marvin and Gayle Karels, Dale Karels and special friend Laura, and Jacob and Angie Karels; daughters: Brenda Amundson and special friend, Larry; Diane and Steve Hioland, Susie and David Brown, and Roseann and Dave Lent; 43 grandchildren (two on the way); seven great-grandchildren (one on the way); and siblings Geraldine Janson, Lorayn Zachman, Florence and Ed Marketon, Mary Ann and George Uecker, and Mark and Giny Karels.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Alma; his first wife, Evelyn Carstensen; his second wife, Carol Carstenson; granddaughter Melissa Ann Karels, brothers-in-law Joe Glunz, Duane Pylka, Leon Zachman, and John Janson; and parents-in-law Jacob and Margaret Bokusky, and Carl and Lena Carstensen.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 17, at the Church of St. Mary Catholic Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiating, and the Rev. Martin Shallebetter concelebrating.
George’s sons acted as casket bearers, with interment in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
