William Edward Carl Klatt
William Edward Carl Klatt, age 77 of Renville, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2005 at his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1927 in Carver County on the Klatt family farm, to William and Lillie (Kuntz) Klatt. He was baptized Feb. 27, 1927, and confirmed April 6, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia.
William attended Waconia public and parochial schools. Following his education, he farmed with his father in Carver County, and also was employed by American Crystal Sugar in Chaska from 1956 to 1971.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Schwalbe June 24, 1952 at the Moravian Church in Chaska.
They moved to Renville in 1976, where William was employed by Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative, retiring in 1989.
William joined St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville in 1976, where he served as an usher and trustee.
Bill enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, mowing lawns, helping neighbors, fishing, and woodworking. He suported his children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed spending time with them.
William is survived by his wife, Lorraine; six sons: William C. “Butch” (and Pam) of Norwood Young America, Rev. Gary (and Sharyn) of Luverne, Mark (and Sharon) of Sacred Heart, Michael (and Tonya) of Fairfax, Steven (and Pam) of St. Louis Park, and Scott (and Dianah) of Sauk Rapids; and three daughters: LuAnn (and Tom) Haas Peterson of Carver, Patty (and Rev. David) Sohl of Omaha, Neb., and Kristie Klatt of Rochester.
He is further survived by 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Karl (and Marjorie) Klatt of Buffalo; his four sisters: Verna Peterman of New Germany, Bernice Molnau of Chaska, Wilma Brueggemeier of Norwood Young America, and Lillian Brandenburg of Chaska; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Esther Melchert and Ruth Clausen.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Renville with the Rev. Rick Tuttle officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Renville.
Casket bearers were William “Butch” Klatt Jr., Rev. Gary Klatt, Mark Klatt, Michael Klatt, Steven Klatt, Scott Klatt, Rev. David Sohl, Tom Peterson, LuAnn Haas, Patty Sohl, and Kristie Klatt.
