Donald David Kliche
Donald David Kliche, age 82 of Howard Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at his home.
Donald was born April 8, 1923 at the family farm in Victor Township, Wright County, the son of Fred and Anna (Gehring) Kliche. A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, he was baptized April 29, 1923 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen, and confirmed in his faith May 2, 1937 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
Donald was united in marriage to Marie Butterfass July 22, 1947 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake by the Rev. A. F. Vomhoff. This union was blessed with five children.
Don was a farmer, a steward of the land that God created for man to care for and not destroy. He was a devoted farmer, running the land that had been his father’s and grandfather’s.
He wore many hats, also working off the farm at various part-time jobs. He drove truck hauling sweet corn for Green Giant, and gravel for Kubasch and Sons. For eight years, he was employed at the Howard Lake Creamery in the milk drying plant, and for two years at the Winsted Farmer’s Elevator. He also worked for Winsted Farmers Co-op Creamery, hauling bulk milk, for five years.
Don was always willing to help a neighbor or family member in need. He loved and cared deeply for his wife, children, and grandchildren, and was thankful for all the blessings God showered on him throughout the years.
He was a devout church member.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Kliche; and brother, Walter.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; son David and wife Gretchen Kliche of Greenfield, four daughters: Nancy Kliche of Hutchinson, Nyla and her husband, Chris Johnson, of Rosemount, Dawn Kliche of Howard Lake, and Darlene Kliche of Edina; and six grandchildren: Dean Kliche, Donna Kliche, Ben and wife Mandi Kliche, Janelle Kliche, Julianne Kliche, and Alicia Anderson.
Don is further survived by one brother, Luther, and wife Dorothy Kliche of Fridley; a nephew; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Nancy Butterfass was the organist, with special music by soloist David Allen. Interment was in the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clayton Helinske, James Wackler, Myron Lahr, Don Horsch, Gerald Vogelsang, Harvey Oestreich, and Donald Thiemann.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
