Vera E. Kratley
Vera E. Kratley, age 88 of Waconia, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born Dec. 27, 1916 in Watertown, the daughter of William F. and Lena M. (Nimz) Mielke. Vera was baptized at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany. She was confirmed June 7, 1931 at Gotaholm (Trinity Lutheran Church) in Watertown by the Rev. M. LeVander.
After graduating from Watertown High School, Vera attended beautician school, and was employed as a beautician for over 45 years in Plato.
Vera was united in marriage to Bud Kratley June 13, 1934 in Hudson, Wis.
She was an avid fisherwoman, enjoyed baseball, played cards (Sheephead), and played the violin and trumpet.
Vera was a member of the Waconia Senior Citizens for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; and her parents, William and Lena Mielke.
Vera is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ted Oelfke of Waconia; grandchildren, Jackie and Rod Anderson and their children, Carrie, Christopher, and Claire; Jill and Kevin Swank and their children, Garrett, Ben, and Beth; John and Diana Oelfke and their children, Eric, Allison, and Abby; and Julie and Jeff Lee and their children, Jacob and Michael.
She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Vera Samuelson of Brooklyn Center; aunt Mildred Nimz of Big Lake; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato with the Rev. Brigit F. Monson officiating. Interment was at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ cemetery in Plato.
Chapel services were at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Oct. 30, with Rev. Mark Shockey officiating.
Casket bearers were Vera’s great-grandsons: Garret Swank Ben Swank, Danny Swank, Andy Swank, Shea Oelfke, Erick Oelfke, Christopher Anderson, Jacob Lee, and Michael Lee.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
