Milo H. Kubasch, 80
Milo H. Kubasch, age 80 of Winsted, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at his residence.
He was born July 7, 1925 in Lester Prairie, the son of Herbert and Goldina (Hamann) Kubasch.
Milo was baptized July 26, 1925 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, Carver County. He was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at the same church March 17, 1940. His confirmation verse was John 6:68. “Then Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.’”
Milo was joined in holy marriage to Kathleen “Keene” Campbell July 19, 1946 in Kimball. God blessed their marriage with five children.
As a young man, Milo assisted his father in the family’s excavating business. In 1944, he established a rubbish hauling business, which later became known as Kubasch & Sons, Incorporated.
Through the years, Milo also picked up canned milk from Maple Lake to Winsted, operated the Winsted Theatre, and worked 30 years in the U.S. Postal Service. He was the former postmaster of the Winsted and Lester Prairie post offices.
Milo was a long-time, faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, where he formerly served as a church secretary and chairman of the congregation.
He was a former school board member and a McLeod County commissioner, served six years on the board of the Adult Training & Habilitation Center, and was conservator (guardian) for 32 people.
Milo also was a past treasurer and secretary of the Jaycees, and officer of the Winsted Civic and Commerce Association, served on the McLeod County draft board, was a former scoutmaster, and served on the district committee of Boy Scouts.
He is survived by four children: Sheilah (Ken) Maresh of Winsted, Kevin Kubasch (sweetheart Sharilyn Wenberg) of Plymouth, Kent Kubasch of Winsted, and Kurt (fiancée Robyn Stender) Kubasch of Richmond; two grandchildren, Shannon Maresh and Kassondra Kubasch; a great-grandchild, Thomas Maresh; a brother, Gordon (Lenora) Kubasch of Winsted; a sister, Beverly (Reuben) Sironen of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sister-in-law Helen Hazel of Brooklyn Center; nieces and nephews; special friend Ramona Perron of Winsted; other relatives, and many friends.
Milo was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen “Keene” Kubasch on Nov. 3, 2002; a son, Keith on July 1, 2005; and by his parents, Herbert and Goldina Kubasch.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 19 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Gerald L. Boldt officiating. Organists were Sharon Pingree and Marsha Christenson. Congregational hymns were “In the Garden,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “Precious Lord, Take my Hand,” and “I Love to Tell the Story.”
Special saxophone music was provided by Kendell Kubasch. Aaron Kubasch was the soloist, and he sang “Homesick.” Private interment followed in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Monday, July 18 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were Sheilah Maresh, Ken Maresh, Kevin Kubasch, Kent Kubasch, Kurt Kubasch, Kendell Kubasch, and Aaron Kubasch.
Memorials are suggested for St. John’s Sunday school program or St. John’s video ministry.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
