Ann Katherine Kuenzel
Funeral services celebrating the life of Ann Katherine Kuenzel, age 88 of Hamburg, were Saturday Feb. 26, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hamburg. Ann died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at the St. Mary’s Care Center, in Winsted.
Ann was born the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Engelmann) Maser Oct. 22, 1916 in St. Paul. She was baptized Nov. 19, 1916 at the Salem Lutheran Church in St. Paul by the Rev. Karl Ermisch; and confirmed March 19, 1931 at the same church by the Rev. E. L. Warkemien.
As a teenager, Ann’s family moved to Gaylord, and was employed as a waitress and cook in a restaurant in Gaylord.
The Rev. H. J. Boumann united Ann in marriage with Hubert Mueller Feb. 16, 1941 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church.
The couple made their home in Hamburg, and operated the Hubert’s Bar until 1963. Ann was also employed by Tonka Toys for 15 years.
Ann suffered the death of her husband, Hubert, in March of 1982.
Ann was united in marriage with John Kuenzel of Hamburg Aug. 1, 1986 by the Rev. Martin Koestler.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran, always willing to help when needed. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and reading. Ann loved to travel, especially enjoying trips to California and Wyoming to visit family. She liked to visit, whether on the telephone or in person, and always loved being with her grandchildren.
Ann became a resident of the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted in October of 2000.
In addition to her first husband, Hubert Mueller, Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild in infancy; one sister; and eight brothers.
She is survived by her husband, John Kuenzel of Hamburg; children Hubert Mueller (wife: Jean) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; and Betsy Mueller (husband Dave) of Norwood Young America; grandchildren Jeff Mueller, Keith Mueller, Melissa Mueller, Amy Goodell (husband Jeff), and Kelly Siekman (husband Matt); stepchildren LaVonne Hasse (husband Sonny), Gwen Werth, and Randy Kuenzel (wife Julie); sisters-in-law and brothers-in law: Bonnie Maser; Barbara Maser, Irena Maser; Adeline Maser, Sophie Elling. Barbara Mueller, Ortwin and Jeanette Kuenzel, Lyla and Hilton Schwalbe, Ruth Kuenzel, Opal and Rueben Schumacher, and Duane and Carolyn Kuenzel; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Donald Andrix officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Kathy Oelfke, and the congregational hymn was “How Great Thou Art.” Soloist Lawrence Biermann sang ‘“Muede bin ich, geh zu ruh.” The Emanuel men’s choir sang “Asleep In Jesus’ and “Take Thou My Hand And Lead Me.”
Visitation was Friday evening at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Serving as casket bearers were Amy and Jeff Goodell, Kelly and Matt Siekman, Jeff Werth, and Lee Hasse. Interment followed at the Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
The Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America handled the arrangements.
