Roy J. Landin
Roy J. Landin, age 96 of Winsted, and formerly of Lester Prairie, died Saturday morning, May 14, 2005 at St. Mary’s Care Center.
He was born March 26, 1909 in East Chain, Martin County, the son of Ernest and Millie Stromberg Landin. Roy was baptized Dec. 18, 1914. He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith as an adult June 15, 1947.
Roy honorably served his country in the United States Armed Services during W.W. II.
He was joined in holy marriage to Merva LaVae Rippel Sept. 8, 1944 at the Kimball Lutheran Church in Jackson County. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Roy was formerly employed as a truck driver for many years.
He was a faithful member, and also the oldest member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Roy is survived by his children: Lois (Curt) Asche of Pequot Lakes, Twylla (Weldon) Baumann of New Germany, Val Landin of Hutchinson, Kent Landin and Kurt (Denise) Landin, all of Winsted; Holly (Steve) KeIzer of Oostburg, Wis.; and Kim (Deb) Landin of Waconia; grandchildren: Steve (Krista) Asche, Ryan (Tracy) Asche, Mike (Dawn) Baumann, Cory (Brenda) Baumann, Robbie (Paula) Baumann, Wendy Landin and fiancé Dennis Geyen, Brian Landin and fiancée Jill Larson, Karen (Jason) Hecksel, Sharon Landin and fiancé Neil Hecksel, Adam Landin, Matthew Landin, Christopher Guggemos and fiancée Shelly Jones, Meghan Guggemos, and Anne Hoffman (foreign exchange student).
He is further survived by great- grandchildren Collin Asche, Kyle and Kaylea Asche; Ryan, Zach, and Christopher Baumann; Becca and Trevor Baumann, McKenna and Brayden Baumann, Andrea Nelson, William Hecksel, Ben Hecksel, Jake and Kristin Jones, Kylie Guggemos and Maxwell Guggemos.
In addition, Roy is survived by a sister, Doris Foster of Fairmont; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Violet Satter of Trimont, Mavis (Don) Persson of Bella Vista, Ark.; Kenneth Rippel of Fairmont, and Viola Quiggle of Minneapolis; and other relatives and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Merva L. Landin on Feb. 17, 1999; parents Ernest and Millie; daughter Dawn Guggemos in 1993; daughter-in-law Brenda Landin in 1993; grandson Joshua Landin in 1997; brothers Vernald and Donald Landin; and sisters Gladys Rigenhagen and Marie Bauer.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Marsha Christenson was the organist and Chuck Thiel was the vocalist. “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” was sung as the congregational hymn. Private interment took place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends called Monday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. An American Legion ritual took place at 7 p.m, followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Honorary casket bearers were Krista Asche, Tracy Asche, Dawn Baumann, Brenda Baumann, Paula Baumann, Wendy Landin, Dennis Geyen, Jill Larson, Karen and Jason Hecksel, Sharon Landin, Neil Hecksel, Anne Hoffman, Shelly Jones, Meghan Guggemos, Collin Asche, Kyle & Kaylea Asche, Ryan, Zach, and Christopher Baumann, Becca and Trevor Baumann, McKenna and Brayden Baumann, Andrea Nelson, William Hecksel, Ben Hecksel, Jake and Kristin Jones, Kylie Guggemos, and Maxwell Guggemos.
Casket bearers were Steve Asche, Ryan Asche, Mike Baumann, Cory Baumann, Robbie Baumann, Brian Landin, Adam Landin, Matthew Landin, and Christopher Guggemos.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
