John K. “Jack” LaZarre
John K. “Jack” LaZarre, age 74 of Nevis, and formerly of Howard Lake, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Area Hospital in Park Rapids.
Jack was born Aug. 23, 1930 in Jamestown, N.D. to Jack Olson and Elva LaZarre. He attended school in Minneapolis, graduating with the class of 1948.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Jack met Vivian Campbell, and two weeks later, asked her to marry him. They were married Feb. 14, 1956.
Jack and Vivian were blessed with four children: Denise, Dawn, Darren, and Derek. They made their home in Wayzata, and Jack was employed at Honeywell in Hopkins as an electrical engineer during that time.
Jack and Vivian enjoyed boating on Lake Minnetonka, camping, snowmobiling and spending time with family at their lake home in Nevis.
Jack moved his family to a farm in Howard Lake in 1973, where he enjoyed country life, horse racing, and just being involved with his children’s activities.
Jack and Vivian were happily married for 35 years until a tragic car accident took her life in 1991.
Jack sold the farm in 1998, and moved to his lake home in Nevis.
He married Laura Covietz May 1, 1999, and they continued to make their home on Lake Belle Taine near Nevis.
Some of Jack’s hobbies included golf, woodworking, boating and spending time with his family up north. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy in life.
He was a member of Our Lady Of The Pines Catholic Church in Nevis.
Jack is survived by his wife, Laura, of Nevis; four children: Denise Jaszcak of Hutchinson, Dawn (Dave) Meyer of Buffalo, Darren (Cindy) LaZarre of Winsted, and Derek (Kathi) LaZarre of Cokato; four step-children: Donna (Kent) Knacke of Rockford, Charlene Covietz of Buffalo, Steve (Tammy) Covietz of Cologne, and Wally (Dana) Covietz of Waconia; 15 grandchildren, and one step-grandchild; as well as other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Vivian, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Janice; and his parents.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady Of The Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, with the Revs. Duane Pribula and Joe Miller officiating. Bonnie Vokes was the organist, and Carol Dierk-hising was the song leader.
Visitation took place from noon until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
Honorary casketbearers were Jack’s grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted, with the Rev. Paul Wolf officiating.
