Marilyn Althea Loven
Marilyn Althea (Holm) Loven, age 77 of Grove City, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service took place Friday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City, with the Rev. Gary Cumings officiating. Inurnment was at the First Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City. Musicians were Carolyn Holje and Sheryl Faust, with Carol Dragt the organist.
A time to gather with family took place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City; and continued for a one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Pallbearers were Marilyn’s grandsons, Jeremy and Kyle Loven, and Jim, Scott, Sean, Brandon Stafford.
Marilyn was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Minneapolis, to Lawrence and Mildred (Swanberg) Holm. She grew up in Grove City, where she was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church.
Marilyn graduated from the Grove City High School, and later, the Minneapolis Business College.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Norman Loven May 7, 1944. Together, they lived in Grove City for many years while Norman worked at the Holm Brothers Hardware Store, where Marilyn was the bookkeeper. In 1965, they moved to California for a brief time. They then moved to Mound, where Marilyn worked at General Mills.
Marilyn and Norman moved to Dassel, where they purchased the Our Own Hardware Store in 1971, and ran the store for many years. Later, they moved to St. Cloud, where Marilyn was secretary for the State Farm Supervisor.
Marilyn and Norman moved “back home” to Grove City in 1990.
Active in her church and community, Marilyn was church organist and accompanied the choir at the First Lutheran Church in Grove City for several years, and enjoyed playing piano.
Norman and Marilyn enjoyed traveling in their motor home, including a trip to Alaska and many winters in Arizona and Florida.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Norman, of Grove City; daughter Cheryl (Laural) Stafford of Grove City; son Jeff (Diane) Loven of Dassel; four grandsons, Jim (Karen) Stafford, Scott (Nyla) Stafford, all of Grove City, Jeremy Loven of Cokato, and Kyle Loven of Dassel; six great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Rita) Holm of Spicer.
She was preceded in death by her son, Peter in 1974; and her parents.
Memorial arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
