Gene Peter Mahon
Gene Peter Mahon, age 76 of Mayer, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005 at the Elim Home of Watertown.
He was born July 25, 1928 in Watertown, the son of Peter and Cecelia Herron Mahon.
Gene graduated from Watertown High School in 1946.
Gene and Geraldine C. “Geri” Kuka were joined in holy marriage Oct. 24, 1951, at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in rural Delano. God blessed their marriage with three children.
Gene engaged in farming in Hollywood Township, Carver County until 1970. He later became an accredited Carver County assessor for 20 years.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 8253.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine “Geri” Mahon; children Cynthia (Dan) Girard, Michael (Sue) Mahon, and Christine (Michael) Secora; grandchildren Amber and Alex Girard, Shawn (Ericka) Mahon, Sarah (Dan) Strommer, and Maisie Secora; great-grandchildren Adryan, Keira, and Derrick, and Caden; a brother, Daniel (Monica) Mahon; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Cecelia Mahon; father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Gertrude Salonek; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ray and Ann Kuka.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Ambrose J. Mahon and Father Paul L. Wolf were the concelebrants. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Friday, Jan. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7 p.m., and a parish prayer service followed at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Alex Girard, Patrick Mahon, Derrick Kedrowski, Bernie McRaith, Jim Fritz, and Brian Mahon.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
