Joseph Anthony Matter
Joseph Anthony Matter, age 49 of Delano, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
He was born Sept. 8, 1956 in Kearney, Neb. He attended St. Peter Catholic School in Delano, and was a 1974 graduate of Delano High School.
Joe was a 31-year employee of Landscape Structures of Delano.
He served as a member of the Catholic Aid Association, and was a member of the South Central Chapter of Minnesota A.B.A.T.E.
Joe was happiest when hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycles; especially when doing so with family and friends. He was a proud father, loving son and brother, and loyal friend.
Joe was loved and will be greatly missed by his daughters, Andrea Rose Matter of Philadelphia, Penn.; and Amanda Jo Matter of Rockford; his parents, Clement and Jean Matter of Delano; siblings Matthew and Jean Matter, Theresa and Herb Ludwig, Peggy and Curt Houghton, Lori and Ed Wanha, and Timothy Matter; nieces Krista and Jaime Kinney, and Julie Ludwig; nephews Joshua and Jen Matter, Michael Wanha, and Joe and Cory Ludwig; great nephews Reilly and Tylor Matter; and significant other Rebecca Martinson;
He is further survived by extended family members, Jerry and Lori Ludwig, Barb and Bruce Horsch, Lisa and Greg Rassat, and Mary Ludwig; aunts Marge Doyle, Lorraine Dixon, Helen Matter, and Eva Matter; and uncle Lloyd Dalbec; as well as many cousins, friends, and co-workers.
Joe was preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Clara Matter, and Teddy and Madge Doyle; and aunts and uncles Carola Dalbec, James Doyle, Alfred and Ethel Matter, Armand Matter, Leonard Matter, and Glenn Dixon.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano with the Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation took place Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service; and continued on Friday from 10 to 11 am., prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were Matthew Matter, Timothy Matter, Harlan Dalbec, Terry Dalbec, Shawn Alexander, Jerome Ludwig, Jeff Miller, and Larry Barfnecht.
Honorary casket bearers were Julie Ludwig, Joe Ludwig, Josh Matter, Michael Wanha, Krista Kinney, and Cory Ludwig.
The family appreciates the compassionate care given Joe by Dr. Stuart Bloom, oncologist at North Memorial’s Humphrey Cancer Center and his staff; North Memorial Hospice; and Dr. Glen Deutsch and the wonderful nurses at the Buffalo Clinic.
