Melvin Arthur Mellin
Melvin Arthur Mellin, age 80 of Delano, and formerly of South Haven and Howard Lake, died Friday, March 4, 2005 at Delano Healthcare in Delano.
Melvin was born Sept. 10, 1924 in Howard Lake to the late Arthur and Ella (Anders) Mellin. He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1942.
After high school, Melvin farmed north of Howard Lake for a time, before moving to Minneapolis to work at CW Robins Sugar Company.
He was drafted into the US Army, where he served in the military police in New Guinie at Oro Bay.
Following his discharge, he returned to the farm, from which he later retired.
After selling the farm, Melvin moved to a cabin on Lake Marie near South Haven. While living there, he attended Zion Methodist Church.
Melvin enjoyed his daily, three-mile walks. He also enjoyed painting with watercolor, playing the piano and organ, and was an excellent cook.
Melvin also volunteered with his brother at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud.
Melvin became a member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church Feb. 13 of this year.
He will be dearly missed by his brother, Willis “Willie” Mellin of Buffalo, and sister, Edith Swanbeck of Tempe, Ariz. He is also survived by many cousins.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Ruth Ann Ramstad officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Howard Lake Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday March 8 at the Peterson Funeral Chapel in Buffalo.
