Rena Leona Munson
Rena Leona Munson, age 87 of Howard Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 20, 1917 in Waseca County, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Corbin) Haushahn. She was baptized and confirmed in the New Richland Congregational Church, and graduated from New Richland High School in 1935.
Rena was united in marriage to Myron Munson May 29, 1939. They first lived in New Richland, then moved to Howard Lake in 1941, to own and operate the bakery.
Rena decorated countless cakes for the people of Howard Lake for many years, until 1978 when she and Myron retired.
Rena loved to work in her flower garden and to sew.
She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, which she and Myron joined in 1942.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Mary) of Shoreview, and Peter of Bothell, Wash.; two grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Rice of Shoreview, and Mark (Janet) Munson of Louisville, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren: Ariel, Chloe, and Andrew Rice, and Caleb and Shea Munson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Lyle and Floyd; and two sisters, Freda McColley and Edna Betchwars.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. Myra Carroll-Pezzella officiating. Music was provided by Patricia Munson and Al Lorentz.Interment followed at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
Serving as casket bearers were Gordon Gruenhagen, Keith Haushahn, Mark Munson, David McColley, Duane McColley, and Tim Rice.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
