Vernon A. Munson, 87
Vernon Ardland Munson, age 87 of Fresno, Calif., and formerly of Cokato, died June 16, 2005.
Vernon was born March 13, 1918 in Cokato, the son of Albert and Alice Munson.
Vernon served in the US Army from 1942-1945. He was discharged as a staff sergeant at the end of World War II.
He married Lenora Gabbert June 18, 1942. She preceded him in death Oct. 2, 1987.
Vernon was employed by Northrup King, and Co. from January 1951 until his retirement, Feb. 28, 1982. He worked in western Minnesota for four years, and Richardson, Texas for 21 years. He returned to Minneapolis for the last two years before his retirement.
While in Texas, Vernon started a new district, which developed into a division, of which he was made vice president in the fall of 1969. He remained in that position until his retirement.
Vernon left Cokato in July, 1999 to live in Fresno, Calif., where he resided until his death.
He is survived by three daughters: Vernell Sutherland of Carmel, Calif., Lynnette Browder of Franklin, Ind., and Jan Munson of Fresno, Calif.; their three husbands; six grandchildren; one sister, Eunice Lundeen of Buffalo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Jerome; and one sister, Lyla Matalas.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. A memorial will also be conducted in Fresno, at his home, Carrington Pointe.
In Vernon’s memory, donations may be given to US Special Olympics, St. James Lutheran School of Howard Lake, or Cardin School of Fresno.
