Jerome “Jerry” J. Rathmanner
Jerome “Jerry” J. Rathmanner, age 82 of Wilmington, Del. and formerly of Winsted, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005 at Christiana Hospital.
Born in Winsted in 1922, Jerry was the son of the late Joseph W. and Katherine (Artmann) Rathmanner.
During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard between 1942 and 1946.
He lived in Baltimore from 1946 to 1956, when he moved to Delaware.
Jerry retired from Exxon Corporation as sales and service manager in 1978 after 32 years with the company.
A member of St. Matthew’s Church, Jerry served as a Eucharistic minister and an usher, and was involved in the parish outreach program, the Men’s Guild and the Holy Name Society.
He was also a member of the Millcreek Lions Club, where he was past president; the Wilmington Optimist Club, where he was also past president, and the VFW Post 3257, where he served as chaplain.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (Soltysiak) Rathmanner; his son, Robert; and his daughter, Marie Antoinette.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Mary Ann H. (Ratsep); three sons: Jerry W. Rathmanner and his wife, Linda; William M. Rathmanner, and Joseph E. Rathmanner and his wife, Penny; a daughter, Patricia A. Riddles and her husband, Larry; two daughters-in-law, Beth and Elaine; 13 grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Colette Horkey and her husband, Carl, and Suzette Ruff and her husband, Dennis, and their son and daughter.
Also surviving are Jerry’s brother, Clem of Minnetonka; and his sister, Marie Campbell Haskell of Billings, Mont.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, Del. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, Del.
Visitation will take place at the church Tuesday after 11 a.m.
