Evan Jeffery Remer
Evan Jeffery Remer, age 18 of Lester Prairie, died Sunday, April 10 in Bergen Twp.
He was born Sept. 27, 1986 in Glenwood, the son of Robert and Marcella (Stubbe) Remer. Evan was baptized at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten, and confirmed into his faith last spring at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by the Rev. Paul Wolf.
Evan attended the Lester Prairie Schools since moving to Lester Prairie with his family in 1996. He participated in football, basketball, and golf during high school.
During his senior year, Evan served as a teacher’s aide for the second and third grade physical education classes. His teacher spoke of what patience he had with the children and what a great help he was to her.
Evan had just returned from his class trip to New York City and had talked about how much he enjoyed it and wanted to go back to see New York City again someday.
He enjoyed playing X-box with his friends, and took great pride in the work he did detailing his car.
As summer jobs, Evan detasseled corn and worked on the grounds crew at Island View Golf Club in Waconia.
The past 10 months, Evan was employed at the Mikkenen home in Cokato, where he cared for mentally handicapped adults. He had a special gift for working with the patients and built a great relationship with them.
Evan had enlisted in the United States Air Force and was scheduled to leave soon after his high school graduation for basic training and specialized training as an air traffice controller.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bryan and Eleanor Stubbe of Adrian.
Evan is survived by his mother and father, Marcy and Bob Remer of Lester Prairie; his brothers, Ben Remer (wife Dana) of Cokato, and Bryan Remer (friend Allison Holmes) of St. Cloud; sisters Leah Remer (friend Tom Hoeft) of Duluth, and Abby Remer of Lester Prairie; and grandparents John and Frances Remer of Brooten.
He is further survived by aunts and uncles: Rich Remer (wife Joy) of Sauk Rapids, Mark Remer (wife Randee) of Fergus Falls, Jim Remer (wife JoAnn) of Grand Forks, N.D., Duane Remer (wife Julie) of Olivia, Diana Corcoran (husband Tim) of Sartell, Rebecca Wong (husband Brian) of Brooklyn Park, and Mary Kay Pasek (husband Steve) of Shoreview; and cousins Isaac and Aaron Remer, Logan Remer, Stacy, Michele and Jessica Remer; Mary, John, and Paul Remer; Adam, Nick, Tate, and Rachel Corcoran; Alex and Owen Wong, and Amanda and Jon Pasek.
Evan is also survived by, and will be greatly missed by his classmates, the Lester Prairie graduating class of 2005.
Memorial services celebrating Evan’s life were Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with the Rev. Paul Wolf officiating. Interment was in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.
Serving as honorary casket bearers were Gary Prehn, Keith Latzke, Vernon Schroeder, Roger Shike, Kevin Selchow, Dan Gueningsman, Steve Klobe, Dave Kern, and the graduating class of 2005.
Visitation took place Friday evening, April 15 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
