Alvin E. “Pete” Schmidt obituary, 5/31/05


Alvin E. “Pete” Schmidt, age 84 of Mayer, died Tuesday May 31, 2005 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born Jan. 2, 1921 at Lester Prairie, the son of Rhinehold and Lilly (Luke) Schmidt. Alvin was baptized Jan. 23, 1921 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Arthur Spleiss, and confirmed April 14, 1935 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., New Germany by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.
Alvin was united in marriage to Glenna M. Schumacher Nov. 27, 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church parsonage, Mayer, by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
Alvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, old tyme music, and traveling. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Alvin also enjoyed spending time at his lake home near Star Lake in Perham.
He was a retired fireman, and the Mayer fire department attended the visitation and funeral service for Pete.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Glenna; daughter and son-in- law Sharon and David McPadden of Hamburg; son and daughter-in-law James and Maureen Schmidt of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren Christine and Troy Strube, Bryan and Sandi McPadden, and Lynse, Chelsey, and Bradley Schmidt; great- grandchildren Sheraye, Sean, and Shelby Strube; and step great-grandsons Tim and T.J. Anderson.
He is further survived by brothers and sister-in-law Ralph Schmidt of Hopkins, and Orland and Gladys Schmidt of New Germany; sisters LaVerna Mielke of New Germany, and Alice Lenz of Mayer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alex and Helen Schumacher of New Germany, and Ruben and Opal Schumacher of Mayer; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Alvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Eunice Schmidt; parents Rhinehold and Lilly Schmidt; father-in-law and mother-in-law Berthold and Emma Schumacher; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Murella Schmidt, Russel Lenz, and Melroy Mietke.
Funeral services were Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Dr. Harald Schoubye officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Bryan McPadden, Troy Strube, Bradley Schmidt, Terry Schmidt, Duane Mielke, Dale Schumacher, Vance Schumacher, and Arlo Kellermann.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
