Mervanna E. Spomer, age 74 of Watertown, and formerly of Hollywood Township and Montrose, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born Feb. 20, 1931 in Montrose, the daughter of Gustav A. and Lena (Domjahn) Guetzkow.
Mervanna was baptized March 15, 1931 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theodore Rolf, and confirmed July 2, 1944 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose by the Rev. F. R. Weyland.
She graduated from Watertown High School in 1949.
Mervanna was united in marriage Aug. 5, 1950 to Clinton L. Spomer at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Fred J. Pfotenhauer.
Mervanna and Clinton lived and farmed in Hollywood Twp., and moved to Watertown in November 2002.
Always a helpmate, Mervanna was employed as a nurse’s aide at Nightengale Nursing Home in Waconia for over 30 years.
She was a loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma.
Mervanna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp., New Germany, where she served as a member of the Ladies Aid.
She was also a member of the Homemakers group.
She is survived by her loving husband, Clinton; children and spouses, Katherine and Edward L. Vinkemeier of Annandale, Keith and Barbara Spomer of Mayer, and Kimberly O’Dell of Rogers, Ark.; grandchildren Ed and Heidi Vinkemeier, Brian Vinkemeier, Julie and Josh Utsch, Sarah and Craig Katzenberger, Bill and Rachele Spomer, Kris and Brad Matter, Amy O’Dell, and Amanda O’Dell; and great-grandchildren Dylan and Cole Matter, Jacob Vinkemeier, and Mia Utsch.
Marvanna is further survived by two sisters, Ardis Hecksel and Vernice Narr, both of Watertown; sister-in-law Cordella Spomer of Delano; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Lena Guetzkow; sister Merline Jorgensen; and brothers-in-law DeVern Jorgensen, Raymond Narr, and Woodrow Hecksel.
Funeral services were Monday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with the Rev. Robert Rupprecht from St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp. officiating.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
