Jerry D. Watkinson obituary, 7/13/05

Jerry D. Watkinson, age 80 of Chula Vista, Calif., died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the home of his daughter, Cynthia Preciado, in Chula Vista.
Jerry was born in the state of Washington. As a young man, he enlisted in the Air Force.
After leaving the Air Force, he worked as a professional photographer in southern California.
There, he met Deloris Mellin, a former resident of Howard Lake, Cokato, and Minneapolis.
They were married in the Howard Lake Church of Christ by G. H. Cachiaras in June of 1949. To this union were born two daughters, Cynthia and Vickey, and a son, Phillip (who was born in Mexico).
Jerry attended Pacific Bible Seminary/Pacific Bible College/HOPE in East Anaheim, Calif. He was immersed in Christian baptism at Disciples Church in Glendale, Calif.
After serving the Carson Christian Church in South Santa Ana Church of Christ and graduating from Bible College, he was ordained to the ministry.
He moved his family to Hermosillo, Mexico as a pioneer missionary to northwestern Mexico in 1955.
Jerry broadcast the Message on XESS in Mexico, but authorities banned the broadcast for 30 years. They are more tolerant today, and Jerry’s son, Phillip, carries on that ministry.
Jerry gave 50 years to the cause.
