Bernice Irene Wetter obituary, 5/13/05


Bernice Irene Wetter, age 88 of Rockford Township, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
She was born Oct. 15, 1916 in Buffalo Township, the daughter of Oscar and Clara Bjorklund Gustafson.
Bernice graduated from Buffalo High School in 1935, and later attended the Buffalo Normal School.
She did her practice teaching at the Thompson School 42 in Rockford Twp. Bernice later taught school at the Elletson School 127 in Buffalo Twp., 1936-1937; Adickes School 67 in Woodland Twp., 1937-1939; and McGrath School 38, also in Woodland Twp., 1939-1942.
Bernice and Leander W. Wetter were joined in marriage June 14, 1939 in Buffalo Twp. God blessed their marriage with three children.
In the fall of 1946, Bernice and Leander purchased a dairy farm near Hanover, in Rockford Twp., and farmed there for many years.
Bernice was a leader of the Handy-Dandy 4-H Club, and was instrumental in organizing the Beebe Lake 4-H Club.
She was a lifelong member of the Buffalo Social Circle, a member of the Greenfield Home Extension Group, and the Wright Co. Historical Society, and for many years, played a rural school teacher at the Wright County Fair.
Bernice organized many of her high school class reunions. She was a former president of the Park View Residents’ Group.
Bernice loved cooking, going to garage sales, driving, crocheting, visiting people, calling bingo at the nursing home, and sports.
She is survived by her children: Leander O. (Mary) Wetter Jr. of Rockford Twp., Ronald (Carrie) Wetter of Princeton, and Karen (Dan) Koester of Dennison; and grandchildren John (Jamie) Wetter of Maple Grove, Paul Wetter of Bloomington, Anne Wetter of St. Paul, Audra Koester (David) Thomas of Humble, Texas; and Barbara Koester of Dennison, James Wetter of Buffalo and Chad (Samantha) Wetter of Princeton.
Bernice is further survived by great-grandchildren Aaron and Halee Wetter; a brother Byron C. Gustafson of Buffalo; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander W. Wetter, Sr.; parents Oscar and Clara Gustafson; and daughter-in-law Jeanne Wetter.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Buffalo. Interment followed at Swedish Mission Cemetery.
Friends called Monday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A prayer service took place at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were grandchildren John Wetter, Paul Wetter, Anne Wetter, Audra Koester Thomas, Barbara Koester, James Wetter, and Chad Wetter.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
