Walter Fred (Wally) Yager
Walter Fred (Wally) Yager, age 82 of Montrose, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Wally was born April 27, 1923 at Waverly to Fred A. and Gladys Caroline (Wandersee) Yager. He was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose.
Wally farmed for many years around Waverly, and was also employed at Pako in Golden Valley. In later years, he was employed seasonally at the Flower Farm of Delano.
He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Ice fishing was his favorite pastime.
Wally was famous for his vegetable and flower gardens, giving much of the harvest to his family and friends, who were all kept laughing by his lively sense of humor.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law Edward Hecht and Harlan Streich; and his nephew, David Streich.
He is survived by his sisters, Edna Hecht of Montrose, and Rachel Streich of Hopkins; many nieces and nephews, and other loving family and friends.
A memorial service took place Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Chapel in Winsted with the Rev. Robert J. Hellmann officiating. Private interment was at Howard Lake Cemetery.
