Anita A. Zastrow

Anita A. Zastrow, age 85 of Camden Twp., Mayer, died early Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005 at her home.

She was born Dec. 8, 1919 at Minnestrista Twp., the daughter of Paul E. and Louise (Hasse) Schwalbe. She was baptized Jan. 11, 1920 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia, by the Rev. William Schneider; and confirmed July 1, 1934 at Trinity (Gotaholm) Lutheran Church, Watertown, by the Rev. M. LaVander.

Anita married Wilbert H. Zastrow Nov. 18, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt. God blessed their marriage with eight children, two lost in infancy.

Throughout their 63 years of marriage, Anita and Wilbert worked side-by-side on the family farm outside of Mayer, farming until the mid-1990s.

Anita was a loving wife, devoted mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Faith and family were most important to her, and she shared her faith to her family by example.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, embroidering, sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and she loved watching her bluebirds.

Anita entered hospice care March 10. Throughout her final days, she was surrounded by her family.

Anita is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Wilbert; children and spouses: Karen and Arvin Anderson of Minneapolis, Leonard Zastrow of Rochester, Renee and Tom Clabo of Hutchinson, Paulette and Allen Lund of St. Michael, Janet and Brad Swenson of Flandreau, S.D.; and Jolene and Bill Devine of Laporte; 21 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by sisters and brother-in-law Loretta Jopp of Watertown, Irene and Alden Jopp of Mayer, and Verna Ketcher of Rockford, Ill.; brothers and sister-in-law Milton and Lyla Schwalbe of Buffalo, and Harold Schwalbe of Waconia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Linus and Lillian Zastrow of Amboy; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Anita was preceded in death by Baby Girl Zastrow; son Wayne Zastrow; grandson Edward Zastrow; great-grandson Isiah Devine; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Lorraine Schwalbe, Roy Ketcher, and Vernon Jopp.

Funeral services were Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, with the Rev. Peter Meier officiating. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Mayer.

Casket bearers were Roy Anderson, Leonard Zastrow, Timothy Clabo, Christopher Lund, Paul Swenson, and David Devine. Honorary casket bearer was Edward Zastrow.

Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
