Virginia “Ginny” Ann Amundson
Virginia “Ginny” Ann Amundson, age 67, of Eden Lake Township, Stearns County, formerly of Hutchinson, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at her home in Eden Valley.
She was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Lynn Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Richard and Elenora (Otting) Slyter. Ginny was baptized as in infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Grace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, by the Rev. Hempel.
She attended school in Hutchinson and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1956. Ginny furthered her education at Hutchinson Technical College (now Ridgewater College) and graduated with a medical secretary degree.
Ginny was united in marriage to Gerald Amundson May 31, 1959, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson by the Rev. Hempel. Gerald’s career in the US Air Force allowed Ginny and Gerald the opportunity to reside in various cities throughout the US.
In 1972, they made their home in Hutchinson and lived there for 31 years until 2003, then they moved to Dassel, and most recently resided in Eden Lake Township, Stearns County.
Ginny held employment as a secretary for Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. She then was employed at Hutchinson Medical Center in Hutchinson for 17 years, until she retired in January of 1999.
Ginny was member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
In her younger years, Ginny enjoyed traveling, camping, walking, and tennis. In her later years, she enjoyed reading western novels, crocheting, embroidery, wintering in Texas, and watching the TV show, “Seventh Heaven.” Ginny especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Gerald Amundson of Eden Lake Township; son Jeffrey Amundson and his wife, Patsy of Hutchinson; daughter Monica Rae Hahn and her husband, Darrin of Minnetonka; stepsons Randall Amundson and his wife, Belannca, of Two Rivers, Wis., and Michael Amundson and his wife, Jayne, of Grafton, Va.; and grandchildren, Anthony Amundson, Rebecca Amundson, RaeAnna Hahn, and Mikaela Hahn.
She is further survived by siblings, Marion Haines of Manchester, Vt., James Slyter and his wife, Darcy, of Grove City, Ronald Slyter and his wife, Joyce, of Hutchinson, John Slyter and his wife, Linda, of Hackensack, Lynnda Chatfield and her husband, Terry, of Stewart, and Jacalyn Pohlmeier and her husband, Richard, of Biscay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elenora Slyter.
Funeral services took place Friday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Randy Freund officiating. Music was provided by organist Shirley Holtz, and soloist Dennis Amundson, who sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” Interment in Oakland Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Lynnda Chatfield, Jacalyn Pohlmeier, Anthony Amundson, Rebecca Amundson, RaeAnna Hahn, and Mikaela Hahn
Casket bearers were Ryan Beich, Brandon Chatfield, Mark Olsen, Jim Slyter, John Slyter, and Ron Slyter.
Arrangement were by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
