Ann Bakeberg, age 88, of Winsted, and formerly of Howard Lake, died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Minneapolis, to Georgius and Helen (Baran) Regan; and was baptized at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church Jan. 1, 1918, by the Rev Miron Damilovich. She grew up in Minneapolis.
Ann graduated from Edison High School with the class of 1936.
She worked at Anoka vegetable gardens while in high school, picking produce. She then went to work at Hindrich Envelope Company in Minneapolis.
Ann met Carl Bakeberg at a ballroom dance in Minneapolis. The couple was married Nov. 22, 1945 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis by Fr. Kallak.
They bought a farm south of Howard Lake, at Lake Emma, and raised their family there.
Ann liked to fish, read, watch baseball, play cards, especially Rummy 500; and watch “Wheel of Fortune.” She raised and sold eggs and enjoyed visiting with people.
Ann enjoyed the activities available to her while she lived at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, and was grateful for the excellent care she received there.
She is survived by her sons, Greg “Butch” (Faye) Bakeberg, and George (Kay) Bakeberg, all of Waverly; grandchildren, Cindy (Jeff) Munn of Waverly, David (Kris) Bakeberg of Howard Lake, Tim (Danielle) Bakeberg of Melrose, Wis., Mary (Matt) Lindberg of Kimball, Pat Bakeberg of Waverly, Ryan Bakeberg of Waverly, Angie (Lee) Barlau of Waverly, Rachel (Leighton) Bender of Howard Lake, and Tony Bakeberg of Waverly; great-grandchildren Josie Bakeberg, Lauren Munn, Kaleb Bakeberg, Reid Bakeberg, Riley Munn, Audri Bakeberg, Aiden Barlau, Lidia Bakeberg, and Cole Lindberg; a sister, Helen Regan of Alexandria; and a sister-in-law, Vi Regan of Minneapolis.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a brother, John Regan; and a sister, Mary Warhol.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, June 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, with the Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiating. Music was provided by Mary Warnke, and St. Mary’s funeral choir. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church cemetery.
Visitation took place Monday, June 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and continued for one hour Tuesday at the church, prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were David Bakeberg, Pat Bakeberg, Ryan Bakeberg, Tim Bakeberg, and Tony Bakeberg. Honorary casket bearers were Angie Barlau, Rachel Bender, Mary Lindberg, and Cindy Munn.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
