Sister Lucia Bayerl
Sister Lucia Bayerl, age 91, a school sister of St. Francis, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 as a result of a car accident. She resided at St. Joseph convent in Campbellsport, Wis.
Sister Lucia was born Sept. 10, 1915 to Frank and Mary Fasching Bayerl. She was the sixth child in a family of 12 children.
She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Winsted, and entered the School Sister of St. Francis in Milwaukee, Wis. June 13, 1935.
Her religious ministry included being a teacher, principal, and librarian in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. Most recently, she volunteered at St. Joseph’s Convent in Campbellsport, Wis., from 1999 to 2006.
Sister Lucia was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Fasching Bayerl; three brothers: Frank, Alfred, and George Bayerl; and six sisters: Sister Lidana Bayerl, Anna, Agnes Maresh, Julie Pavlish, Sister Marcie Bayerl, and Sister Marcelle Bayerl.
She is survived by two sisters, Rufina Deidrick of Winsted, and Lucille Nowak of Silver Lake, nieces and nephews.
The wake and funeral liturgy took place Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the convent chapel in Campbellsport, Wis. Following the services, burial took place in the Sisters’ Cemetery.
Local memorial service
A memorial service for Sister Lucia will take place Monday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
