Carolyn Birkholz, age 80, of Lester Prairie died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Lakeview Clinic in Waconia.
She was born Feb. 6, 1926 in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Weise) Baumann. Carolyn was baptized at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Lester Prairie; and later confirmed in her faith at the same church in 1939 by the Rev. Seybold.
Carolyn graduated from Lester Prairie High School and attended Hamline College for two years.
She was united in marriage to Bruce Birkholz April 13, 1946 at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Burkett. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Bruce Jr., Donn, and Jane.
A lifelong resident of Lester Prairie, Carolyn attend church regularly and was a member of the women’s guild and the church choir.
She enjoyed working in the garden, cooking and canning many of the vegetables she grew. Carolyn liked watching many sports, but especially baseball. She loved family gatherings, especially when her children and grandchildren would come over for brunch.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Dustin Birkholz.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Birkholz of Lester Prairie; children, Bruce Steven Birkholz (wife Ruth) of Burnsville, Donn Birkholz (wife Caroline) of Lester Prairie, and Jane Bach (husband Roy) of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Trent Birkholz (wife Briana) of Maple Grove, Nathan Bach (wife Jill) of Waconia, Kali Thompson (husband Nick) of Lester Prairie, Donavon Birkholz of St. Cloud, and Dane Birkholz of Lester Prairie; and great-grandson Mason Bach.
Carolyn is further survived by a brother, Leslie Baumann (wife Dorothy) of Lester Prairie; sisters-in-law Clarice Carlbom of California, and Marvel Workman of Nisswa; brother-in-law Orval Birkholz of Glencoe; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services celebrating her life were Monday, April 10 at Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Bill Baldwin officiating. The organist was Marie Eischens. Soloist Marvin Westermann sang “It Is Well With My Soul” and “In The Garden.” Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “Evening Prayer.” Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation took place Sunday, April 9 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Trent Birkholz, Nathan Bach, Nick Thompson, Donavon Birkholz, Dane Birkholz, and David Baumann.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
