Bruce William Birkholz
Funeral services celebrating the life of Bruce William Birkholz, age 82, of Lester Prairie, were Friday, May 12 at Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie. Bruce died Monday, May 8, 2006 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Lester Prairie, the son of John Louis and Louise (Villwock) Birkholz. Bruce was baptized Feb. 24, 1924 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Baumhoefner, and confirmed into the faith at the same church March 21, 1937 by the Rev. Burkett.
Bruce graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1942.
He was united in marriage to Carolyn Baumann April 13, 1946 at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Burkett. Bruce and Carolyn were blessed with three children: Bruce, Donn, and Jane.
The couple were lifelong residents of Lester Prairie, where they owned Weise & Kuhlmann Hardware Store with Carolyn’s brother.
Bruce played baseball in his younger years and helped the Lester Prairie town team win the state tournament.
He enjoyed playing golf, cards, and reading, and enjoyed going to the cabin to go fishing and spend time with his family.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carolyn; grandson Dustin Birkholz; brother Roland Birkholz; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Howard Carlbom, Byron Workman, and Marge Birkholz.
Bruce is survived by his children: Bruce Steven Birkholz (wife Ruth) of Burnsville, Donn Birkholz (wife Caroline) and Jane Bach (husband Roy), all of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Trent Birkholz (wife Briana) of Maple Grove, Nathan Bach (wife Jill) of Waconia, Kali Thompson (husband Nick) of Lester Prairie, Donavon Birkholz of St. Cloud, and Dane Birkholz of Lester Prairie; great-grandson Mason Bach; siblings Clarice Carlbom of California, and Marvel Workman of Nisswa; brother-in-law Orval Birkholz of Glencoe; brother-in-law Leslie Baumann (wife Dorothy) of Lester Prairie; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Bill Baldwin officiated at the funeral service. The organist was Marie Eischens, and the soloist was Marvin Westermann, who sang “Softly And Tenderly” and “Abide With Me.” Congregational hymns were “Be Still My Soul” and “It Is Well With My Soul.” Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation took place Thursday evening, May 11 at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Trent Birkholz, Nathan Bach, Nick Thompson, Donavon Birkholz, Dane Birkholz, and Alan Birkholz.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
