Suzy Burkowske obituary, 9/7/06


Suzy Burkowske, age 65, of New Germany, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006 at Beverly Healthcare in Excelsior.
She was born to Wilbur and Laura (Erickson) Prough Aug. 13, 1941 in Liberal, Kans. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, May 21, 1944, by the Rev. Tungseth; and confirmed May 27, 1956 in Cokato, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Joseph S. Dahlquist.
Suzy was united in marriage to Elroy W. Burkowske July 20, 1957 in Willow Lake Twp., Redwood County, Minn., by the Rev. A. S. Bernthal at the pastor’s home.
A kind, loving, and dedicated wife and mother, Suzy’s concern for the emotional and physical well-being of her family continued throughout her lengthy illness, overshadowing her concerns for herself. Her grace, beauty and disarming smile endeared her caregivers to her during her hospitalizations.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in particular, were a source of joy to her during her last difficult months.
The many people whose lives were touched by Suzy will be forever impacted by their interactions with her. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Suzy was preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Francis; parents Wilbur and Laura Prough; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Edwin and Lacorda Burkowske.
Suzy is survived by her loving family, husband Elroy; children and spouses Debbie and Randy Markanich of Luray, Va., Lori Burgan of Woodbury, Jeffrey Burkowske of Winsted, Bruce Burkowske of Winsted, Shari and Kennedy Motende of Delano, Shelley and Rob Stark of Monticello, and Carl Burkowske of Excelsior; grandchildren John, Jenny, Tricia and Titus, Ify, Kenny, and Lilly; great-grandchildren Brittany, Blake, Avery, Tyrone, and Johnni; and her loving friend, pet dog Blossom.
She is further survived by aunts and uncle Glenna and Leslie Lehrke of New Germany, and Laverna Baumann of Watertown; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Monday Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment was in St. Mark Cemetery in New Germany.
Visitation took place Sunday, Sept. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m.. with a chapel service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued for one hour prior to the funeral service Monday.
Casket bearers were Scott Iversen, Lyle Lehrke, Scott Millerbernd, Michael Baumann, Brett Martinson, and Tim Dahl.
