Bryan Francis Cafferty
Bryan Francis Cafferty, age 87, of Winsted, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
He was born May 14, 1919 in Hale Township, McLeod County, the son of James and Anna Haekenkamp Cafferty.
Bryan was joined in holy marriage to Eleanore H. Dusoski May 18, 1943 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
The Caffertys engaged in farming for many years. Bryan also had a repair service business in Sherman Station.
In 1954, Bryan opened Bryan’s Service Station in Winsted, which he operated for 52 years.
Bryan enjoyed farming, gardening, driving, ice fishing, watching baseball and football, repairing tractors, vehicles, and small engines; and visiting with people.
He was a faithful, lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Bryan was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1841 in Silver Lake, and Council 8253 in Winsted. He served as deputy grand knight and grand knight for the Silver Lake Council, and was the first grand knight of the Winsted Council, which he helped start. He served as the district deputy for the district, which encompassed many towns.
In addition, Bryan headed up the bingo program for two years for St Mary’s Hospital in Winsted, and then for 25 years for Holy Trinity. He was also a member of the C & C in Winsted.
Brian is survived by his loving wife, Eleanore H. Cafferty; children, Margie Kritzeck of Howard Lake, Elizabeth Joyner of Bloomington, Delores (Kenneth) Otto of Vadnais Heights, Theresa (James) Sexton of Delano, Bryan “Butch” Cafferty of Brainerd, Catherine (Brad) Wiggins of Victoria, Rosemary, and Alan (JoLynn), all of Winsted; and Julia (Allyn) Mann of Shawnee, Kans.; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by brothers and sisters Jim Cafferty, Marie Lieb, Mark (Lucille) Cafferty, Jerome (Theresa) Cafferty, Alice (Clayton) Ziebarth, and Loretta Smykalski; sisters-in-law Audrey Johnson and Rita Beehler; brother-in-law Leonard Dusoski; and many other relatives and friends.
Bryan was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann; a son Lawrence “Larry;” grandchildren Jackson Cafferty, and twins Bridget and Elizabeth Wiggins; son-in-law Kenny Kritzeck; brothers John and Frank Cafferty; sister Anna Boehlke; sisters-in-law Irene Cafferty and Marlene Dusoski; and brothers-in-law Edward Boehlke, Fried Lieb, and Louis Smykalski.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Concelebrants for the Mass were the Revs. Paul L. Wolf and John H. Brunner. The organist was Alice Nowak, and the soloist was Sandy Otto.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Jesse Cafferty, McKenzie Cafferty, Kevin Cafferty, Ben Wiggins, Tyler Mann, Mark Otto, Elroy Boehike, and Matt Cafferty.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
