John M. Carlson obituary, 5/25/06


John M. Carlson, age 81, of Buffalo, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute in Minneapolis.
He was born March 27, 1925 to Harry and Mabel Carlson in Stockholm, Minn.
John grew up in Stockholm, graduated from Cokato High School, and honorably served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
John and Joyce (Rieck) were married Oct. 30, 1949 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, and were happily married for 55 years.
John and Joyce moved to Buffalo from Stockholm in 1957.
Well versed in many subjects, John had a passion for inventing, farming, flower gardening, travel, and enjoying time with family and friends. He was known for his ingenuity, quick-witted humor, patience, generosity, and big smiles.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mabel; sons Dean and Dale; and brothers Rollie and Carlton.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son Reed (Gayle) Carlson of Cokato; daughters Diane (Wayne) Weege of Baldwin City, Kans., Gayle (Gordon) Dramen of Buffalo, and Amy (James) Rohlin of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren (Trevor, Tyler, Maria, Janelle, Lauren, and Alyssa); sisters LuAnn (Richard) Johnson of Burnsville, and Margorie Krueger of Washington state; other nephews, nieces, and friends.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, May 30 at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, with the Rev.Becky Sogge officiating. Interment followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo.
Casket bearers were Jeremy Carlson, Ryan Carlson, Coy Weege, Kevin Carlson, Kelly Weege, Dylan Rohlin, Rod Schmit, Todd Sylvester, and Jake Schanus.
Honorary casket bearers were Leslie Schmit, Amanda Sylvester, Jamie Weege, Randi Schanus, Suzanne Weege, Tracie Weege, Danielle Dramen, Madison Dramen, and Dakota Bruns.
Arrangements were by the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
