Vernetta Martha Clausen
Vernetta Martha Clausen, age 80, of Hutchinson, and formerly of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at Cedar Crest Estates in Hutchinson.
She was born May 29, 1925 in Plato, the daughter of Harrie and Ella (Breyer) Studemann. Vernetta was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Township, McLeod County.
Vernetta received her education in Lester Prairie, and was a graduate of the Lester Prairie High School class of 1943.
Vernetta was united in marriage to Willis Clausen June 29, 1951 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. This marriage was blessed with three children.
Vernetta and Willis resided in Wilton, Iowa for the last 19 years of their life together. They shared 46 years of marriage, until Willis passed away in 1997.
In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, Vernetta was employed as a secretary for CDC, a mail order catalog clearing house in Wilton, Iowa. She retired in 1987.
In her youth and early adulthood, Vernetta was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, where she belonged to the ladies aid and sang in the church choir. She also returned to St. Paul’s during the years of 1964 to 1967, when her husband, Willis, was organist and choir director there.
Vernetta enjoyed sewing, gardening, and reading, and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Vernetta became a resident of Cedar Crest Estates in Hutchinson.
She is survived by her son, René Clausen, and his wife, Mary, of Moorhead; daughters Lynn Needham, and her husband, Earl, of Clovis, N.M., and Lauren Cullison of Port Byron, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters JoArda Ernst of Howard Lake, and Lois Cardarelle and her husband, Frank, of Edina; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Willis, Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents, Harrie and Ella Studemann.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Organist was Marsha Christenson. Soloist Michael Needham sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” and congregational hymns were “Praise To The Lord, The Almighty,” and “Beautiful Savior.” The eulogy was given by René Clausen. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Joshua Clausen, Michael Needham, Jonathan Needham, Timothy Needham, Christopher Edwards, and Phillip Gonterman.
Arrangements were by Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
