Bruce Dean Collison

Bruce Dean Collison, age 75, of Blackduck, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at McAllen Heart Hospital in McAllen, Texas.

He was born March 11, 1930, in Hines, Minn., the son of Clarence Acle and Ruth Esther (Sherwood) Collison.

He attended Hines Public School and graduated from Blackduck High School in 1948.

Bruce served in the US Army from August 1948 to August 1949, and an additional five years in the reserves.

He operated the gas station in Hines, owned by Beck and Wolden, from 1949 to 1953. He was employed with the Minnesota Highway Department from July 1953 until his retirement June 30, 1986.

Bruce married Donna Mattson Aug. 10, 1952 at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato. They lived in Hines until they moved to Blackduck in 1994.

They have spent their winters in Mission, Texas, since 1989, finding their permanent winter home in Wagon City in 1991.

Bruce loved the outdoors, and some of his favorite times were spent camping, hunting, and fishing with his family. After his retirement, he began woodworking, and enjoyed creating furniture and other projects for family and friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hines.

Bruce is survived by his sons and grandchildren, Jeff and Tammy Collison (Chris, Cory, and Kelli) of Hines; Craig and Becky Collison (Michael, Steven, Blake, and Leah) of Bemidji; and Gary and Ginger Collison (Alex and Lora) of Sandy, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Vera Jensen.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck.
