Ruth Agnes Dahlman
Ruth Agnes (Miller) Dahlman, age 66 of Gulf Shores, Ala. died Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
She was born to Earl and Agnes (Reither) Miller in Aitkin Sept. 28, 1939. She spent the majority of her youth and teenage years in that community with her family, and graduated from high school there in 1957.
Ruth was united in marriage with James Dahlman Nov. 4, 1957 in Charles City, Iowa.
While her husband, James, was an employee of the Minn. Dept. of Natural Resources, for more than 36 years, they resided at Aitkin, Bagley, International Falls, Orr, and Grand Rapids. During that time, they raised three children who have since gone on into their adult lives on separate journeys and purpose.
During her lifetime, Ruth was employed as a smoke watcher out of a fire tower, a waitress, an office manager for a real estate firm, a dental clinic manager, and a bookkeeper and adminstrator of a medical clinic.
She enjoyed reading novels, collecting and reading cookbooks, cooking, entertaining, garage sales, music, golf, cards, travel, glassware and antiques, and caring for her home and her husband, Jim.
Ruth and Jim enjoyed traveling over much of their married life. Her all time favorite travel venture was a motor home trip to Alaska in 2002.
After retirement, their winter travels brought them to warmer climates, including Gulf Shores, Ala. Ruth and Jim spent four winters there before they moved permanently to the community in 2003.
Preceding Ruth in death were her parents; and two brothers, LeRoy and his wife, Stephanie; and Terry, who passed away in infancy.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; sister Gail and husband Woody Newland; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins, and abundant friends.
Memorial services were conducted Monday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church. Committal will take place at a later date at the Bennettville Cemetery near Aitkin.
Arrangements were by Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home and Crematory, Foley, Ala.
