Delbert Harland Dressler
Delbert Harland Dressler, age 77, of Lester Prairie, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 at Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.
He was born July 25, 1929 in Bergen Township, the son of Henry and Elma (Huser) Dressler. Delbert was baptized Aug. 25, 1929 at Friedens County Line Church by the Rev. Hafermann; and confirmed in the faith at the same church, April 18, 1943 by the Rev. Nussmann.
Delbert attended country school by Plato until 1943, when he attended Glencoe Public School through his sophomore year, in 1945.
He was united in marriage to Geneva Foust Oct. 25, 1947 at the Methodist church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. Norman Batdorf.
Delbert enjoyed the outdoors, going moose, deer, pheasant, duck, and elk hunting from the age of 17 until 2005. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and going for rides in the boat.
His favorite pastime was mowing lawn, for his family and his neighbors. He helped each one of his children build a house, and was very handy with woodwork. He loved spending time with his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Delbert and Geneva had a cabin on Lake Osakis where they enjoyed spending time from 1978 until 1990.
A member of the McLeod County Posse for 19 years, Delbert was also a general contractor from 1964, when he went into partnership with Lewis Heigl, and then had his own construction business in 1967.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Dressler; and sisters and brothers-in-law Evelyn and Merlin Kassulker, and Lorraine and Norman Kassulker.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Dressler of Lester Prairie; children Daryl Dressler (wife Patricia) of Owanka, S.D., Barbara Spomer (husband Keith) of Mayer, David Dressler (wife Kimberly) of Lester Prairie, Dean Dressler (wife Michelle) of Big Lake, and Beatrice Hecksel (husband Lonnie) of Mayer; and grandchildren Jennifer Hagen (husband Larry), Cory Dressler (wife Dottie), Bill Spomer (wife Rachele), Kris Matter (husband Brad), Ryan Dressler (fiancée JaNaye Jilek), Shawn, Daren, and Daniel Dressler, Nicholas and Samuel Dressler, and Jeremy and Justin Hecksel.
Delbert is further survived by great-grandchildren Dylan and Cole Matter; brother-in-law Orville Foust (wife Lavonne); nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service was Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Bill Baldwin officiating. The organist was Marie Eischens, and the congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “God Be With You Until We Meet Again.” soloist Karla Heigl sang “Daddy’s Hands.” Interment was in the Church of God Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Bill Spomer, Cory Dressler, Ryan Dressler, Shawn Dressler, Daren Dressler, Jeremy Hecksel, and Brad Matter.
Visitation took place Tuesday evening, Sept. 5 at the Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
