Irene Mae Fiedler
Irene Mae Haggberg Fiedler, age 73 of Annandale, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at the Cokato Manor.
She was born May 6, 1932 in Cokato Township to Joseph and Hilda (Mastrud) Haggberg. Irene grew up on the farm in Cokato Twp., and was confirmed at the Cokato Apostolic Lutheran Congregation.
She attended the Melquist School, and graduated from Cokato High School with the class of 1950.
Irene went on to nursing school at St. Barnabas, graduating with her nursing degree in 1953.
Irene was married to William Fiedler Dec. 20, 1952 at Elim Mission Church in Cokato by the Rev. Rod Rosengrin. Bill and Irene made their home on the farm in Albion Township.
At the Cokato Hospital, Irene worked as a scrub nurse for Dr. Nolan of Litchfield, and also Dr. Greenfield. She was employed at the Cokato Hospital until its closing in 1967.
Irene was then employed as a nurse at the Cokato Manor for 38 years.
Irene enjoyed quilting, embroidering, baking, gardening, letter writing, and traveling. She had traveled to Italy four times, and once to Sweden.
She was a member of the Cokato Historical Society and the Couples Club.
A very active member of her church, the United Methodist Church in Howard Lake, Irene served as Sunday school superintendent, and was a member of the United Methodist Womens Group.
She also volunteered with the American Red Cross bloodmobile.
Irene used her many gardening, baking, and embroidery skills to enter her goods in the Wright County Fair, winning many ribbons. She was known to always have a full cookie jar for the kids that came to her house.
Irene is survived by her husband, William, of Annandale (Shuneson Corner); daughters Julie (Roger) Entinger of Anoka, Linda (Mark) Weber of Waverly, and Lori (Mark) Vandersteen of St. Paul; and son John (Debbie) Fiedler of Annandale; 12 grandchildren: Erik (Kim) Entinger, Andy, Luke and Jake Entinger, Erin (Kyle) Kutz, Sam Weber, Clarissa, Mattie, Brok, and Leif Vandersteen, and Brandon and McKenzie Fielder; a sister, Joanne Knoll; and a sister-in-law, Jean (Kent) Carlson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Bill; and two grandchildren, Zachery Vandersteen and Christopher Entinger.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. Debra Clausen and Pastor Al Jones officiating. Music was provided by Dennis Entinger, Deb Bankes, and Marla Rusack. Interment was in Sylvan Cemetery.
Visitation took place Thursday, Jan. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Casket bearers were Irene’s grandchildren: Erik Entinger, Andy Entinger, Luke Entinger, Jake Entinger, Erin Kutz, Sam Weber, Clarissa Vandersteen, Mattie Vandersteen, Brok Vandersteen, Leif Vandersteen, Brandon Fiedler, and McKenzie Fiedler.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
