Norman Eugene Finstrom
Norman Eugene Finstrom, age 72, of Darwin, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1934 at Kerkhoven, Minn., the son of Elmer and Mildred (Johanson) Finstrom. The family moved to Kandiyohi, Minn. when Norman was a child, where Norman received his education, and later at the Willmar High School. On the death of his father when Norman was in his early teens, he, along with his brother, Leslie, took over the work on the family farm.
Norman was united in marriage to Jessie Jones July 19, 1963 in Wayzata. Following their marriage, they made their home in Dassel until 1974, when they moved to their present home in Darwin.
For many years, Norman was employed as a union carpenter in the Twin City area. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed all aspects of maintenance on their rental properties, including general repairs, carpentry, and plumbing.
His passion was politics, and he was always ready to talk and discuss issues.
In addition to his wife, Jessie, Norman is survived by his brothers, Russell of Kerkhovan, and Marvin (wife Jeri) of Lester Prairie; and by sisters Dorothy Putnam of St. Paul, Marlys Bryan of Bloomington, Judy (Marlen) Hagen of New Hope, and Audrey Bergum of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald and Leslie; and sisters Caroline and Paulette.
Funeral service took place Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. from the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel. Pastor Rod Tornquist, a nephew from Red Wing, Minn., officiated, and also provided special music. Interment was at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Pastor Tornquist provided special music.
Casket bearers were Robert, Douglas, Wesley, and Aaron Finstrom; David Loken, and Marlen Hagen.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
