Lauretta Rosella Foede
Lauretta Rosella (Hanson) Foede, age 95, of Montrose, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Winsted, after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1910 to John and Bertha (Switzenberg) Hansen near Gary, S.D., and moved with her family to the Buffalo area as a child.
Lauretta was united in marriage to Edwin (Jim) Foede in 1943, while Jim was in the military in Alliance, Neb. After his discharge, they farmed near Buffalo, and then Milaca. Upon retirement from farming, they lived in Montrose, then near Malmo. Lauretta returned to Montrose in 1990.
Lauretta was a lifelong gardener, and apartment living inspired her to undertake container gardening on her patio. She enjoyed harvesting ripe tomatoes well into December. She led a very active social life until three weeks before her death, with regular attendance at church, several card clubs, and a sewing club, always contributing a homemade lemon meringue pie to potluck occasions.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Heinonen of Plymouth; son and daughter-in-law John and Nada Foede of Madison Lake; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kaarin Foede (Ron Middendorf), and Susan Foede Weinberger (Tom); a sister, Charlotte Taylor of Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1988; her parents; and siblings Cornelius Hansen, Helen Sinclair, Vilet Hansen, John Hansen, Gailard Hansen, and Gerhard Hanson.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Good Thunder, Minn.
Pallbearers were Jeff Taylor, Mark Taylor, Joel Haag, Gary Foede, Butch Foede, and Wayne Hecht. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Taylor, Harold Villnow, John Carlson, and Alfred Bleck.
