Darryl L. Giesselmann
Darryl L. Giesselmann, age 56, of New Germany, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1949 in Omaha, Neb., the son of Lyle and Caroline (Neuhaus) Giesselmann. Darryl was baptized Dec. 11, 1949 at his home by the Rev. O. William Luecke; and confirmed April 21, 1963 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb., by the Rev. Marvin Mueller.
Darryl was united in marriage to Betty J. Aerni Aug. 16, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, Neb., by the Rev. Bernhardt Meschke.
Darryl graduated from Concordia Lutheran College in Seward, Neb., in 1971 with a degree in education. He spent 35 years teaching and serving as principal at Zion Lutheran School in Mayer, Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville, and St. Mark Lutheran School in New Germany.
He loved spending time with his family, playing baseball, camping, traveling, farming, and woodworking.
Darryl was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Betty; daughters and son-in-law Julie and Troy Herrmann of Cologne, and Brenda Giesselmann of Minneapolis; grandchildren Logan, Kylie, and Kassi Herrmann; mother Caroline Giesselmann of Farmington, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law Duane and Connie Giesselmann of Doe Run, Mo.; mother-in-law Alvina Aerna of Columbus, Neb.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Judy and Leonard Muhle, and Sharon and Ted Otte, all of Columbus, Neb.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Darryl was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Giesselmann; and father-in-law Philip Aerni.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Cemetery, New Germany.
Casket bearers were Jeremy Henning, Robbie Baumann, Nona Lehrke, Rachel Bening, Amy Schreader, Brad Quaas, Doug Schroder, and Terry Plath.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
