Norman Ellsworth Granquist
Norman Ellsworth Granquist, 86, Cokato, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Meeker County Memorial Hospital, Litchfield.
Services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 15 at Stockholm Lutheran Church, rural Cokato, with Pastor Jack Torgersen officiating. Music was by organist Karen Anderson and soloist Peter Gausmann.
Norman Ellsworth Granquist was born June 12, 1919, to Alfred and Mary (Nystrom) Granquist on the family farm in Stockholm Township. He was baptized and confirmed at the Stockholm Lutheran Church. Norman attended country school at Stockholm where he learned to speak English. He graduated from Cokato High School in 1939.
He married ElVern Hoefs Feb. 12, 1944, at Litchfield. They resided on the family farm for 61 years.
Norman was a carpenter who thoroughly enjoyed his work. He was an avid sportsman, and loved hunting and fishing.
He was also a baseball fan, and he played third base at Cokato High School, as well as for town teams in Cokato, Lake Jennie and Hutchinson.
Norman became a resident at Cokato Manor in 2005.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Robert) Conklin of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Ericka (Marty) Espe of Duluth, Melissa (Peter) Gausmann of Minnetonka, Erick Kotila of Cokato, and Brianna Lu Garrison of Litchfield; great-grandchildren, Clara, Jon and Ann Espe; and Conrad, Samuel, and Lillian Gausmann; and sister, Melba Granquist of Dassel.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a daughter, LuAnn Garrison; and a sister, Irene.
