Dorothy M. “Jean” Groenke
Dorothy M. “Jean” Groenke, age 85, of New Germany, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born May 19, 1921 in Illinois, the daughter of Leslie and Ethel Dorsey. Jean was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
Jean married Williard “Jesse’ Groenke Sept. 22, 1990 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Jack Dahl officiating.
Some of Jean’s hobbies included needlework, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and reading. She enjoyed going to the day care center in Norwood Young America, and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.
Jean was preceded in death by husbands Fay Chapman and Williard Groenke; grandson Leslie Melvin Chapman Jr.; parents Leslie and Ethel Dorsey; and brother Jack Dixon.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Leslie M. Chapman, and David E. and Helen Chapman, all of Rockford, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marcille Groenke of Minneapolis, Lillian Campbell of Osseo, Ralph and Joan Groenke of Fridley, George Groenke of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gloria Groenke of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with the Rev. Allen Holthus from St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery, New Germany.
Casket bearers included Jackie Chapman, Jerry Chapman, Michael Chapman, Bill Chapman, John Rost, and Greg Rost.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
