Myrtle Marie Gruenhagen
Myrtle Marie Gruenhagen, age 71 of Howard Lake, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
She was born Jan. 30, 1935 in Marysville Township, Wright County, the daughter of Wallace and Emma (Persian) Marquette. Myrtle was baptized as an adult and confirmed in her faith Dec. 7, 1952 at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. Theodore Melinat.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Victor Gruenhagen April 4, 1953 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. This union was blessed with seven children.
Myrt’s life ambition became raising her family, along with working on the family farm. She enjoyed making hearty meals, especially during the planting and harvesting seasons. Riding with her sons in the combine were times she cherished.
As the children grew older, Myrt worked outside the home as a waitress, house cleaner, and as an employee of Dura Supreme.
Spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren, was a most important part of her life. Nature and bird watching were also favorite pastimes for Myrt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Emma Marquette; three brothers, James, Alvin, and Harland Marquette; and three sisters, Rozella Zander, Verona Bruska, and Joyce Gruenhagen.
Myrt is survived by her children: Kevin Gruenhagen of Howard Lake, Trudy Latt (Mark) of Dassel, Randy (Herby) Gruenhagen, David Gruenhagen, all of Howard Lake, Twila Norgren of Cokato, Glenn (Emily) Gruenhagen of Watkins, and Terry (Anita) Gruenhagen of Becker; and 16 grandchildren, Daniel, Katie, Riley, and Jake Gruenhagen; Erick, Laura, and Danielle Latt; Stephanie, Amanda, Sean, and Matthew Gruenhagen; Rachel, Larinda, and Ericka Norgren; and Cody and Brady Gruenhagen.
She is further survived by a sister, Beulah Stoppelman of Maple Lake; a brother, Percy Marquette of Buffalo; nieces; nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Butterfass. Interment was in the Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Craig Gruenhagen, Dan Gruenhagen, Erick Latt, Ron Marquette, Brian Gruenhagen, Dean Stoppleman, Raymond Marquette, and Kenny Marquette. Honorary bearers were Tom Zander, Lyle Bruska, and Angelica Hackney.
