Walter Albert Gutknecht
Walter Albert Gutknecht, age 84, of Buffalo, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at the Buffalo Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1922 in Frankfort Township, the son of Carl and Eleanora Pautzke Gutknecht.
Walter was baptized Aug. 27, 1922 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake by the Rev. C. J. Schrader. He was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at the same church July 26, 1936 by the Rev. W. C. Nickels.
He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1941.
Walter farmed in Rockford Township with his uncle and aunt, Henry and Stella Pautzke.
He was joined in holy marriage to Darleen Roos July 1, 1979 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake.
A faithful, lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Walter taught Sunday school there for 50 years. He was a past president of an AAL Branch, and former Rural Youth member.
Walter is survived by his wife, Darleen; brothers Arthur (Doris) Gutknecht, Carl (Roberta) Gutknecht Jr., and Elroy (Florence) Gutknecht, all of Buffalo; a sister, Lillian (Edwin) Duff of Sun City West, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Reuben Roos of Lester Prairie; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eleanora Gutknecht; and by two brothers, Elmer and Richard Gutknecht.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake, with the Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Amy Smith was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness,” “Abide with Me! Fast Falls the Eventide,” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.” Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Friends called Wednesday, Jan. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m.
Casket bearers were Allen, Dan, Gary, Mark, and Steve Gutknecht, Jim Greig, and William Pautzke.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
