Susan Jane “Sue” Gutzke
Funeral services celebrating the life of Susan Jane “Sue” Gutzke, age 59, of Glencoe, took place Tuesday Dec. 12 at the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe. Sue died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at her home.
She was born July 30, 1947 in Blue Earth, Minn., the daughter of Maxwell and Kathryn (White) Brown. Sue was baptized at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth.
She graduated from Elmore High School in 1965, and went on to attend the College of St. Catherine and MIM to be an X-ray technician.
Sue was united in marriage with Roger Gutzke Sept. 27, 1969 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The couple made their home in Cologne until 1975, when they moved to Glencoe.
Over the years, Sue helped on the family farm, and also worked at Ridgeview Medical Center, Glencoe Regional Health Services, Western OB/GYN, Hutchinson Area Health Care, and Sibley Medical Center.
She enjoyed painting, especially painting unique items such as eyeglasses and saws. She spent her weekends with her grandkids, and enjoyed playing with her puppies, Dolly and Josie. Sue loved to visit and joke with those who called or stopped by.
Sue and Roger attended the Church of St. Pius X, where Sue helped the Council of Catholic Women on occasion.
She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparents; and a brother-in-law, Ben Stricker.
Susan is survived by her husband, Roger, of Glencoe; children Carrie Overby (husband Colin) of Glencoe, Theresa Gutzke of Brownton, and Tim Gutzke (wife Kris) of Cokato; father Maxwell Brown of Nevis; and grandchildren Sam and Katie Gutzke, Brittany Kuhnau, and Tyler and Tanner Gutzke.
She is further survived by her brother and sisters Mary Kay Stricker of Mason City, Iowa; Nan Thompson of Brooklyn Park, Bill Brown (wife Jackie) of Park Rapids, and Jean Brown of Shakopee; father-in-law and mother-in-law LeRoy and Paulina Gutzke of Norwood Young America; sisters-in-law Diane Feltmann (husband Daryl) of Cologne, Monica Wischnack (husband Tom) of Norwood Young America, and Cindy Sontag (husband Tom) of Fridley; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Msgr. Eugene Lozinski officiated at the funeral service. The music selections included “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Wade Trnka, Gene Mathews, Marlin Krienke, Henry “Butch” Henkelmann, Dusty Henkelmann, Tim Mathews, Duane Mathews, Rick Rehmann, and Mark Overman.
Serving as honorary casket bearers were Sue’s five grandchildren.
Visitation took place Monday evening, Dec. 11 at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, which handled the arrangements.
