Verdella O. Hecksel
Verdella O. Hecksel, age 86, formerly of New Germany, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at Elim Home in Watertown.
Verdella was born Aug. 9, 1920 in McLeod County, the daughter of Rudolph L. and Lena (Roepke) Domjahn. She was baptized Sept. 12, 1920 at St Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf; and confirmed March 25, 1934 by the same.
Verdella was united in marriage to Howard F. Hecksel Nov. 30, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., New Germany by the Rev. W. L. Ernst.
Verdella was an active member of St. John Ladies Aid, and also was a member of the choir at St. John’s for many years.
She was employed at Green Giant Corn Pack in Winsted, and farmed with her husband, Howard, and her son, Kevin, in Hollywood Twp. for many years.
Verdella enjoyed her large vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed her home cleaning jobs, which she did into the 1990s.
Verdella was preceded in death by her husband Howard; son Kevin; father and mother, Rudolph and Lena Domjahn; father-in-law and mother-in-law Theodore and Lena Hecksel; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Jerome and Stella Hecksel, and Harold Hecksel.
She is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Shirley and Sheldon Ittel of Mayer, Eugene Hecksel of La Mesa, Calif, and Jeanette and David Hill of Orono; grandchildren Bradley Ittel of Winsted, Brenda and Greg Worm of Cologne, Brian Ittel of Silver Lake, Jennifer and Michael Meyers of Onalaska Wis., Jamey and Nicole Hecksel of Green Isle, Rachael Hill of Otsego, and Sarah and Rathe McLean of St. Louis Park; and great-grandchildren Robert, Thomas and Jeffrey Worm, Emma Hecksel, Haley and Natalie Meyers, and Hannah McLean.
Verdella is further survived by sisters-in-law Marie Hecksel of Watertown; nieces, nephews cousins and many friends.
Funeral service was Monday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., New Germany, with the Rev. Robert Rupprecht officiating. Interment followed in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Bradley Ittel, Brian Ittel, Jamey Hecksel, Greg Worm, Michael Meyers, and Rathe McLean.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
