Elmer Willard Heino
Elmer Willard Heino, age 80, of Crystal, died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Presbyterian Home of Roseville.
He was born Sept. 30, 1925 in Dassel Township, Meeker County, the son of Hugo and Emma (Kaisalahti) Heino. He received his education in the rural school system of Meeker County,
From 1944-1946, Elmer served his country in the US Army, stationed in the Western Pacific. He was honored to receive the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, and Combat Infantry Mans Bade, along with other medals and ribbons.
Elmer was united in marriage to Edna Sipinen Sept. 20, 1947, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis, and for many years, made their home in Crystal.
Elmer loved nature and the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Teamsters, and for many years, drove truck for Rose Brothers Trucking.
Elmer and Edna enjoyed spending time in northern Minnesota, at their trailer home. Following his retirement, Elmer spent most of his time at this northern home.
For two years prior to entering the Presbyterian Home of Roseville, Elmer lived with and was cared for by his niece, Ione Alaspa, in Fridley.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; and his siblings, Einard, Erving, Edwin, Gladys, Ernest, and Lillian.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Monday, July 3 from the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel with Pastor Al Jones officiating. Interment was at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery, with an Honor Guard by the Paul F. Dille American Legion Post of Dassel.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
