Carl D. Hellwig
Carl D. Hellwig, 80, Darwin, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at the Emmanuel Home, Litchfield.
Services were conducted Monday, Jan. 16 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Ellsworth Township, Meeker Co., with the Rev. Don Main officiating. Music was by Marion Rick, organist, and Pastor Main, soloist. Congregational hymns were also sung. Interment was at Ellsworth Township Cemetery.
Casket bearers were David Tews, Robert Tews, Allen Tews, James Tews, Gary Hellwig and Marvin Luke.
Carl Donald William Hellwig was born June 15, 1925, in Ellsworth Township, Meeker Co., to Albert and Hazel (Putzier) Hellwig. He was baptized as an infant July 12, 1925, and later confirmed as a youth at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He received his education at School District #66 in Ellsworth Township.
Carl married Evelyn Tews April 19, 1953, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Acoma Township, McLeod County.
He farmed for many years, and also worked for Sederstrom Feed and Seed Company, later Cargill, Inc., from 1972 until retiring in 1987. While employed there, he sold and delivered feed and did crop spraying and fertilizing.
A member of St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Carl and was active on the maintenance board. He was also a charter member of the Darwin Lions Club.
He enjoyed visiting neighbors and having coffee with friends. He especially enjoyed family time.
Carl became a resident of Emmanuel Home in February 2003.
Survivors include his wife of Darwin; children, Bruce Hellwig, and Kathy Hellwig, both of Darwin; brother-in-law, Marvin Tews of Litchfield; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Ellsworth) Thies of Gaylord, and Beatrice Tews of Arlington; neice, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur and wife Edith; sister, Cora Tews; brothers-in-law, Arnold Tews and Harold Tews, and nephew Tod Tews.
