Michael G. Henfling
Michael G. Henfling, age 93, of Winsted, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006 at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley.
He was born Dec. 13, 1912 in Hollywood Township, Carver County the oldest son of John A. and Regina (Hausladen) Henfling. Michael was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by the Rev. Andrew Rinke.
Michael lived in Winsted most of his entire life except for seven years when his parents moved to St. Paul when Mike was about eight years old. He attended schools in St. Paul and at Holy Trinity.
Michael engaged in farming with his parents near Lake Ida. He later worked at Holy Trinity for many years, and mowed lawns in Winsted.
While on the farm, Mike often helped his neighbors haying, threshing, and doing field work. He also enjoyed helping many neighbors in Winsted.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Mike enjoyed horses, especially driving them, fishing, and visiting with people. When his mother became blind, Mike was her caregiver until her death.
He later became a resident of Linden Wood Apartments and St. Mary’s Care Center.
Mike is survived by brothers Harold A. (Theresa) Henfling of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gregory G. (Sylvia) Henfling of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; nieces Patricia Keithley, Mary Greb, Margaret Wheeler, Joan Kubier, Elizabeth Henfling, Deborah Coakley, and Anne Donohue; nephews John, Joseph, Gregory Jr., and Thomas Henfling; and 15 grand nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by several loving cousins: Gene and Leona Hausladen, Betty Diers, and Julann Delaney; a special friend, Father Martin F. Rath, OSB; and other relatives and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, John A. Henfling, Aug. 11, 1957; his mother, Regina Hausladen Henfling, Jan. 23, 1982; a brother, Alfred J. Henfling, Dec. 28, 1992; a sister-in-law, Rosecelia Henfling, Aug. 28, 1987; and by a nephew, William Mark Henfling, Aug. 29, 1980.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with the Rev. Paul L. Wolf as the celebrant. The organist was Alice Nowak, and the soloist was Pat Delaney. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a rosary recited at 3 p.m.
Honorary casket bearers were John Henfling, Joseph Henfling, Gregory Henfling Jr., Thomas Henfling, Michael Wheeler, Brian Wheeler, John Wheeler, Daniel Kubier, Christopher Keithley, and Aaron Henfling.
Casket bearers were Henry Kubier, Frank Henfling, Gene Hausladen, Brian Schurmann, Glenn Diers, and Francis Schommer.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
