Paul A. Hertzog
Paul A. Hertzog, age 93 ofWinsted, and formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born Sept. 3, 1912 in Winsted, the son of John and Anna Kaintz Hertzog.
Paul honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II.
Paul and Florence A. Krekelberg were joined in holy marriage Jan. 10, 1934 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Paul and Florence (“Fuzz”) owned and operated Hertzog’s Bar for many years in Winsted. The couple later owned and operated the Starlite Bar in Freeport.
Paul was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport.
He also belonged to Winsted American Legion Post 407.
Paul is survived by his loving children: Joan M. Kegler of Savage, Lowell A. (Linda) Hertzog of Watertown, and Thomas R. (Deb) Hertzog of Freeport; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence “Fuzz” Hertzog May 15, 2000; daughter Donna Rose Cochran March 18, 1998; parents, John and Anna Hertzog; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; sons-in-law Raymond Kegler and Gordon Cochran; daughter-in-law Constance Hertzog; nine brothers; and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant, and Lavon Kielliclo was the organist for the Mass. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called Saturday morning, Jan. 7 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. An American Legion Ritual took place at 10:15 a.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 10:30 a.m.
Casket bearers were Brian Hertzog, Jim Hertzog, Chuck Kegler, Curt Kegler, Rick Cochran, David Cochran, Tim Cochran, and Mike Cochran.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
